28 Jun 03 - Resaca Georgia - Summer Shootout

Just a week after the Spokes RoadCross event, we returned again to Resaca GA for another RallyCross. This was to be Chattanooga's big mid-season Summer Shootout Event. There would be 3 events over the weekend with top honors going to whoever could sweep all 3 events.

This of course would not be us. In fact we only entered 2 of the events, the RallyCross and the RoadRally on Saturday. Instead of doing the Autocross on Sunday, we'd be heading back home. No triple crown here, all we wanted to do was beat Team Metro in the RallyCross.

We did our usual, rode up to Calhoun GA on Friday evening and got us a motel room. Delivery pizza from Papa Johns and we settled in for the night. Saturday was going to be a long day. Next morning we were up and out to the MotoCross site for the RallyCross event.

We did pretty good, I guess. Again our runs made improvement, about 6 seconds gain from first run to best run. We managed a respectable 17th overall this time, and 3rd in class (blast that Team Metro, they beat us again).

Last RallyCross event in April we came in 26th overall, but there were 32 entries for that event, vice 23 for this one. We were also 6th in class last time.

This event was pretty dusty as you can see in the pictures.

Thanks to Tom Greig for taking the photos during this event. Some very nice close-ups and action shots. He made us look semi-professional. Out of the way, Colin McRae.

Below is a picture of us giving a lift to the other guys heading out to their 'Corner Worker' posts. They appreciated not having to walk all the way to the far ends of the course in the mid-day heat. It was while working the corners that we'd get just covered with dust.

During one of our worker's stints we were working the corner where Brian Flanagan almost rolled his Jeep Cherokee. Up on his two right wheels, I thought for sure me and Kristian was going to be pulling him out of a overturned vehicle. Happened right in front of Kristian who was watching his corner from the back of the RallyRanger.

Joke was circulated that the picture above was actually a 'extra weight' penalty that had been accessed against the RallyRanger for going too fast. Does kinda look like we're barreling around the course, with all that dust flying.

After we finished the RallyCross event about 3pm, we had to load up quickly and start the RoadRally. Kristian helped me load the RallyRanger onto the trailer, then went up for the drivers/navigators meeting while I loaded the rest of the stuff. When he returned, he had our route instructions and gimmick questions in hand.
